For those who are yet to know, Turkish Airlines (THY) was recently crowned Europe's fastest growing international airline based on passenger numbers, according to a written statement from the Association of European Airlines.
Apart from this, Turkish Airlines allows the Star Alliance network to offer customers more than 17,500 daily flights serving 927 airports in 162 countries at very cheap and discounted airfare rates. Turkish Airlines’ home base, Istanbul, will in future become Star Alliance’s foremost hub at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and act as gateway to various new destinations in Turkey and new connections especially to Central Asia and the Middle East, still for the same discounted airfares. Turkish Airlines do operate a fleet of modern and predominantly young aircrafts. They have been selling some of the older A310 aircraft and acquiring brand new A340s and Boeing 737-800 series. Theirs is one of the youngest fleets in Europe. Turkey has a great potential for attracting visitors and tourists in "winter tourism" with its climate, geography and thrusts in the tourism sector. This has made the country to be ranked the 9th among the most tourist attracting countries list and the 8th in the list of countries with the greatest income in the tourism sector according to World Tourism Organization data. Turkey has since been consistently increasing the number of its air travel passengers - both international and domestic – up to 61.6 million and beat a record in civil aviation in 2006. One of the reasons adduced for this growth apart from the country’s tourist attractions, is the cheap airfares and discounted air tickets made available by most of the airlines operating flights to Turkey. Last year, the number of passengers to Turkey soared by 10 percent over 2005 and reached 28.8 million on domestic flights and 32.8 million on international flights. Taking advantage of these favorable statistics, many airlines including Turkish Airlines reduced the rates of its airfares on several air routes for all classes of its flights.
With this growth in the number of tourists and visitors, Turkish Airlines made out a way to enhance passenger satisfaction on its flights. One of these is providing dirt cheap airfares for students while other flyers who have Star Alliance memberships will allow the carrier to expand its customer discount air ticket offers to cover its alliance network with frequent flyer benefits, lounges and alliance fare products. At the same time, Turkish Airlines will participate in all Star Alliance initiatives aimed at reducing costs, while at the same time improving customer service, such as collocation at airports, joint lounges, electronic ticketing or joint media purchasing, to name a few.
For high flyers information, the Turkish Airlines Business class lounge at Istanbul is large, spacious, and comfortable, located after Immigration within the Duty Free shopping area where you can buy goodies at cheap prices. There are different food types and drinks - soft drinks and beer which you can also help yourself to sandwiches and some hot snacks. From there, there are dozens of tables and chairs to choose from. At the far end, near the window, is a large screen TV and to the right you can go through into the PC room where there are six or seven PCs connected to the internet. What every passenger will however find most useful is that, Turkish Airlines sells on discount prices of airfares which are cheaper than European airlines. Turkish Airline’s air ticket prices are almost always cheaper than those of similar airlines. The airline’s planes are nice and new. In-flight food is nice and the service is decent. The drinks are a standard choice, with beer or wine or spirits. The meal is plentiful and there is a choice of main course. The crew is sweet and polite, if not warm; efficient and friendly. The best part is that the flights are direct and for the cheap airfare prices, that is a great thing. If you are going to Turkey, it is strongly suggested that you fly with Turkish Airlines.
